Glossop SNT - Opertation Sceptre / School Engagement.
SCHOOL VISIT Part 1 PCSO Buller Glossop YET attended New MIlls Secondary School yesterday, Monday 17th November - to complete our usual monthly lunch time drop-in session and also to promote 🔪Operation Sceptre🔪.
Op Sceptre occurs twice a year, and the week-long national campaign involving all police forces in England & Wales working to remove knives from the streets, deter carrying knives, and educate the public, particularly young people, on the dangers of knife crime.
The team were displaying information about and explaining to students that this week is ‘Operation Sceptre Week’ The National Knife Crime initiative - which is running from 17th November until 23rd November.
Whilst it is the minority of people who choose to carry knives in Derbyshire, it can have a devastating impact, and by carrying a knife those people are also putting themselves more at risk of being hurt. By displaying this information about knife crime and discussing the devastating impact of carrying a knife can have for victims, perpetrators and the wider community with young people.
By being available to talk to young people about the impact that knife crime can have and ways to support our plea to ‘Choose Life’ - ‘Drop The Knife’ and ‘ Shattered' - 'Knives Shatter Lives’
Youth engagement forms a significant part of the week, helping young people to move away from violence and involvement in knife crime - with the statistic ‘7 out 10 young people who carry a knife will then have the same knife used against them’.
“Operation Sceptre week is not just about enforcement activity, it is also about education and wider awareness of knife crime - the campaign aims to raise awareness of knife crime and the police action in detecting, reducing and preventing it”.
Today's visit was also an ideal time to promote Fearless.org.
What is Fearless? Fearless is a part of crimestoppers and is an online reporting tool specifically designed for young people to report crime 100% anonymously.
SCHOOL VISIT Part 2 After lunch the school then laid on a careers event in the main hall for their year 10 & 11 students - with parents attending after school too.
With multiple organisations being represented alongside Derbyshire Constabulary who were there providing info and answering any questions about a career in Policing
Glossop YET would to say thank you to all of those students who engaged with the team yestrday during lunch and the later Careers event . And also our appreciation to the headteacher and staff at New Mills Secondary School for allowing these engagement to take place.
